About the Authors
Thomas Smith is the inspiring president and co-founder of the Thomas E. Smith Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals and families living with paralysis. A passionate hockey player from a young age, Tom’s life took a dramatic turn when he sustained three unrelated paralyzing injuries in less than eighteen months. Refusing to let adversity define him, he defied the odds—transitioning from years in a wheelchair to walking with crutches through sheer hard work and determination. Driven by his own experiences, Tom established his foundation to raise funds and awareness for people that live with paralysis while also pioneering innovations like the Look-Up Line in hockey rinks to enhance player safety. Today, he is a proud husband and father and continues to motivate countless individuals with his resilience, optimism, and unwavering commitment to making a difference.
Todd Angilly is the celebrated National Anthem singer for the Boston Bruins, a role he has passionately held since 2019. Todd’s journey to the TD Garden ice began with a love for music nurtured through childhood choir singing and later honed at Plymouth State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music, followed by opera training at the New England Conservatory. A proud husband and father, Todd’s powerful tenor voice and community spirit shine beyond the rink. He enjoys volunteering at events throughout New England, using his voice to uplift others and raise awareness of meaningful causes.
