We Can Do Hard Things tells of an experience not everyone will have to go through, but the essence of which is a valuable lesson for people of all ages. The importance of a relationship between child and parent cannot be overstated, especially when something really scary is going on. Dupuis does not intend to sugarcoat these hardships or make them out to be any less frightening, but instead tells us that even if it’s hard, you can still get through it. 

In sharing a vulnerable experience about her battle with breast cancer, Dupuis shows her audience that everyone has the potential to get through even the toughest of times, as long as we have each other. Our hardest experiences give us the biggest lessons, and show us that each day is special and worth cherishing, no matter how much or how little we manage to accomplish.

Allyson Rankin is an English major and tutor at Cape Cod Community College, along with being awarded a place in Phi Theta Kappa: International College Honor Society. She desires to work in the publication industry, specifically as an editor, and is working hard every day to hone the skills needed to meet that goal. Helping authors write stories that inspire and immerse readers is her greatest dream, and connecting to the audience while upholding the vision of the author is a balance she is constantly looking to master.
