About the Authors
Susan Downing, co-author of the Bradykin series, calls Hanover, Massachusetts her home. She shares her life with her husband, Denis, and their two magical Coton de Tulear companions, Bradykin and Baileykin. Together, they form a loving family alongside their children, Matthew and Megan. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Fitchburg State University, Susan possesses over thirty years of experience in the mortgage-lending industry. Her strong professional ethics, unwavering integrity, and dedication to providing exemplary customer service have earned her a remarkable reputation. These skills, coupled with her sales and management expertise, have proven invaluable in the development and marketing of the beloved Bradykin series.
Susan’s passion for writing has been a lifelong pursuit, fueled by the inspiration she received from her favorite elementary English teacher, Mrs. Beatrice Barnicle. Dogs and children hold a special place in Susan’s heart, forming integral parts of her life. Through her books, Susan endeavors to capture the essence of small-town values, family traditions, and happy memories. Her aim is to create stories that resonate with readers, while also preserving the everyday moments that shape families and create lasting memories.
In addition to her writing endeavors, Susan actively volunteers and donates Bradykin books to organizations such as Boston-based Cradles to Crayons, hospitals, and schools. Giving back to the community holds great importance to her and her family. During her leisure time, Susan indulges in creative writing and painting, and she cherishes the opportunity to spend quality moments with her loved ones and friends. Susan’s dedication to her craft and her commitment to fostering joy and togetherness through her books make her an exceptional author and a cherished member of her community.
Megan Downing, co-author of the Bradykin series, is currently enrolled in the Winston School of Education and Social Policy at Merrimack College, where she is pursuing her passion for children, education, and creative writing. Her love for these areas has been evident since her early years.
During her elementary school days, Megan successfully convinced her parents to choose Bradykin as their beloved family pet. Bradykin, the son of Q-Tip and Gizmo, was born on a farm in Monroe Township, New Jersey. His journey was even featured on Animal Planet’s “Too Cute” episode, capturing his growth from birth to eight weeks old before becoming an adored member of the Downing family. Megan played a pivotal role in the development of the Bradykin stories, infusing them with her love for Martha’s Vineyard and contributing creative ideas that shaped both the storyline and the imagery shared with their talented illustrator, Chris Young.
Matthew Downing is a multifaceted individual with a Bachelor of Science in Business from St. Michael’s College in Vermont, specializing in business administration and management with a minor in accounting. Beyond his academic achievements, he co-authored “Bradykin’s Snowy Adventure,” showcasing his love for skiing and winter sports. Outside of work, Matt is actively involved in volunteering at Cradles to Crayons and The Genesis Foundation for Children. Instrumental in shaping the Bradykin brand, he is also an experienced sales professional. His passions extend to caring for his two Coton de Tulear dogs and a heartfelt commitment to children.
Denis Downing, co-author of Bradykin’s Global Adventure and the Assistant Chief of Police at Harvard University, brings a wealth of real-world experience to the Bradykin series. With a distinguished career in law enforcement, Denis has traveled extensively, providing security for Harvard delegations across the globe. His firsthand encounters with diverse cultures and landscapes add authenticity and depth to Bradykin’s Global Adventure, inspiring young readers to embrace curiosity, resilience, and a spirit of exploration.Beyond his commitment to public safety, Denis is passionate about storytelling and encouraging children to discover the world around them. Whether through travel, books, or outdoor play, he believes adventure fosters learning, confidence, and connection.
